Navigating Information Landscapes

nur für Incom-Mitglieder

This project week worksop will be taught in English, but we are happy to provide assistance in German.

We are constantly bombarded by dense, abstract information from various sources, including social media, news outlets, scientific publications, and more. This information comes in many forms, such as text, images, videos, and data visualizations, each presenting its own unique challenges for comprehension and interpretation. As the volume and complexity of information continue to grow, it is becoming increasingly critical for individuals and societies as a whole to make sense of this complexity.

The status quo behind today's technologies and the ever-increasing levels of data complexity are pushing us to explore new ways, models, technologies, and frameworks to visualize, navigate, and understand information effectively. This raises important questions: Why do interfaces and data look the way they do? What are the cognitive and perceptual factors that influence how we process and make sense of complex information? How can we propose new approaches to information design that better align with human cognition and improve our ability to extract meaningful insights from data?

In this 5-day workshop we will explore Information Landscapes / Interfaces / Data Visualization, research the human cognitive models behind how we perceive them, develop a concept for a prototype, and execute it through (AI-assisted) coding.
