Exkursion Seminar: Mapping Community Perspectives for Change and Continuity (engl./de)
In collaboration with migrant groups students will investigate how grassroots initiatives help shape inclusive, resilient communities in response to displacement and migration. The seminar focuses on how community members experience change-through migration, resettlement, and adaptation-while also holding on to key elements of continuity: identity, culture, and collective belonging.
Sessions will be held fortnightly at external premises, allowing students to engage directly with the space and its community. Through on-site activities, students will gain first-hand insights into how integration happens-not just through policy-but through daily interactions, mutual support, and grassroots initiative.Throughout the seminar, students will collaborate with active members of the chosen community-many of whom have experienced forced migration-to document personal stories of transition and belonging. These individual narratives will be the heart of the seminar's learning process. The seminar culminates in a collaborative final project-such as a digital archive, visual exhibition, or multimedia storytelling format-that maps and presents these community perspectives. This work will give students the chance to reflect on facilitating inclusion, supporting grassroots efforts, and working ethically and creatively with communities undergoing transformation. By connecting theory, practice, and real human experience, the seminar equips students with the skills and insights needed for meaningful work in community development and refugee support.
