As large language models (LLMs) and the Model Context Protocol (MCP) reshape digital systems, language is emerging as the most powerful interface—capable of orchestrating tools, services, and entire contexts beyond traditional apps and screens. This shift challenges established paradigms of interface design, demanding new ways of thinking and making.
This course is structured as a research project. Students will investigate the decline of conventional interface practices, critically analyze the disruptive potential of LLMs and MCPs, and explore how designers can shape human–AI interaction on three interconnected levels:
Interface: designing discoverable, multimodal, and explainable interactions.
Service: prototyping new AI-enabled experiences and rethinking how value is created and delivered.
Society: addressing ethics, responsibility, and the cultural implications of language-driven systems.
Through theory, debate, and prototyping, we will develop and evaluate speculative and practical approaches to design in an age where language itself functions as the operating system of human–machine interaction.
