The course offers a comprehensive introduction to theories, methods, and practices of design research. It covers the foundations of philosophy of science, knowledge cultures in design, concepts of inter-, trans-, and multidisciplinary design research, as well as quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-methods approaches. In addition, we will critically examine the relevance of creativity and innovation methods within design research, and collaboratively develop strategies for advancing and reflecting on the master thesis. The course also addresses aspects of research planning, research ethics, and mindfulness and self-care in academic work contexts. Overall, it provides essential theoretical foundations for successful MA studies. Its content complements the Studios and the Reading Group.
