This course critically investigates our contemporary time crisis. The urbanized way of living and working has created a fundamental change in our understanding of time: a 24/7 mentality.

In the course, we discuss temporary acceleration processes, and the role new technologies play within them. We are looking at the politics of time, including contemporary work patterns and time norms. For instance, deadlines are not bound to any laws or regulations and therefore cross all the boundaries of labor and leisure, public and private, across all time zones.

We will discuss the perception of having ‘no time’, the impact time plays in our design processes, and how we can gain temporal freedom. Most of all, we understand time as a system that can be designed by us!

The course is of practical and theoretical nature, exploring different models and approaches of design research.
