This course delves into the method of 'Design for Debate' or 'Critical Design,' as popularized by Dunne and Raby. It challenges students to critically engage with design not just as a tool for solving problems but as a medium for raising questions and stimulating discussion.
The course structure is designed to guide students through the process of conceptualizing, developing, presenting and reflecting their own critical design project, fostering a deep, theoretical understanding alongside practical, project-based learning.
In addition to the hands-on project work, each student will articulate their process and findings in a 2-page academic paper, thereby learning to construct and defend their arguments scientifically.
