It seems as if our lives have become so complicated. We constantly face challenging situations which require careful deliberation and decision-making. Flowcharts promise to make situations more graspable and navigable, and their visual quality can offer clarity and a more organized approach towards a goal. At the same time, flowcharts make it possible to visualize winding pathways, recurring thoughts and non-linear connections, things we likely encounter in our minds when dealing with a personal dilemma.

This course is a hands-on introduction to visual storytelling using interactive flowcharts. You will create and illustrate a flowchart about a dilemma of your choice, narrate a path through the chart using an audio recording, and piece these elements together in an interactive interface. In the end, you will have a web-based version of your flowchart, allowing viewers to follow your narration or explore the chart’s contents on their own. Along the way, you will also learn something about illustration, visualization, and storytelling.

The course will go from 12 till 18 October 2023 from 10am to 5pm. It will be taught in English, requires no prior experience and is open to anyone with an interest in illustration, infographics and/or data visualization.
