a music video for the song Baghdad Choaby by the band Tarabband. Tarabband it's a band from Sweden presents Arabic music influenced by other music styles. the song is a bout missing Baghdad-Iraq. choby is the traditional dance in Iraq.
Iraq and Syria are neighbours and went throw the same situation, they used to be peaceful tolerant countries and now are suffering the terrible situation. in this song the singer just wants to forget all the problems and dance! some times in my head i want to forget all problems that we currently have, no question no worries just dancing.
The main thing that I tried to visualise is nostalgia which the singer is trying to explain in her own style. I used animation, because I wanted no limits to create the feeling of nowhere, just being lost in memories. The desire of returning in thoughts to the homeland and all the related beautiful aspects of it: dancing, calligraphy and ornaments symbolise joy, civilisation and Art. Plenty of disturbed objects are coming across like a storm of memories that could be brought by hearing a very old song or a picture of some one you’ve never seen for a long time.
-I used a mix between motion Graphics and 2D rotoscope (5 frames per second) I felt the interruption in the movement will harmonised in somehow the song’s beats
-The dancing character (about 300 hand drawing frames) was inspired by the lines of the calligraphy that I used which is gothic and a mixture between many styles of Arabic calligraphy.
-some normal street picture from Syria and Baghdad nothing special about except of being where the people used to walk daily, where our small beautiful memories were made.
