For my project I decided to do a poster series for a cinema in Belgrade, Serbia, called „Novi bisokop Zvezda“ - engl. „New Cinema Star“. The idea was to make a series of posters, promoting the changing weekly programme, but keeping the cinema's rich history and identity in mind.

Cinema „Звезда“ or „Star“ is one of the oldest cinemas in the world, and the oldest in Belgrade, built in 1911. Under the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugolsavia it was renamed the „Star“ (Serbian: Звезда).

Because of the economic crisis, it has been forgotten and abandoned for many years. However, in 2014, more than 200 people: activists, artists, and filmmakers decided to occupy the empty building and begin holding regular screenings there.

Today it is regarded as cultural heritage and is a symbol of the city's identity and underground scene. One part of the reason why Zvezda is beloved by many in Belgrade is the sense of authenticity and history that it exudes: a kind of reaction against the commercialisation of cinema.

It operates based only on donations and is run by volunteeres, usually young artists and students. What also makes Zvezda special is the programme that chan
