WORKING DIARY PROGRESS

This work diary consists of my approach to the tasks given in this course, and there are three parts of the assignments below. This part will show my daily process and workflow for this class.

FILA - 1ST WEEK

In this first week of fila, I was considering more about how to approach people with the design through „Association.“ What could attract people's attention?

But I was too busy thinking about strategy and needed to remember the design. Since I got the feedback from the first week, I decided to focus on the design rather than overthink the strategic side of it.

First Approach

FILA - 2ND WEEK

In this second week, I focused on the design by following fila's guidelines. The theme was „Heritage meets Future“ in this design process, I didn't want to bite more than I could chew, so I decided to approach the futuristic side first.

I gathered some inspiration on what „Futuristic“ could look like. I had been inspired by this y2k Aesthetic from films, magazines, and just some artworks from other people. I grabbed something useful from these inspirations that could be part of my design.

FILA - 3RD WEEK

In this third week, I had some part of the futuristic side for the design, so I decided to dive into the „Heritage,“ The shape of the clothes provided by Fila itself had a strong heritage sense on it. Still, I wanted to approach more about the heritage side of it.

There were a lot of factors from Padel tennis that could be seen as heritage, so I decided to approach the form of the ball movement. This gave me broad ideas on the pattern that could be added to the design.

By sketching the ball movement, I created some interesting patterns for myself. I wasn't satisfied with it, but it could be a baby step for the final design. It's just a baby step to it.

FILA - 4TH WEEK

In this fourth week, we had to finish it as soon as possible. From all the previous weeks, I came to the final decisions with a little bit of tweaking on the color & pattern for the design.

I developed the ideas and finalized them by merging them and the mood boards I had been collecting. These steps helped me to complete the concept and bring it to the finish line.

FILA - 5TH WEEK

I finalized the design, but again I wanted more from the results. From how I saw it, the design had so much futuristic side to it but not enough heritage, so what now?

I decided to show more heritage side of Padel Tennis, not only through the pattern on the shirt, because not all the people would understand the pattern's intention.

These issues pushed me to bring heritage in a more literal way. Since I'm not a person who knows pedal tennis, I want to use my perspective of view and curiosity to me what makes pedal tennis.

What interest me the most is the technique. So decided to put a different kind of technique as an explanation or guidelines for how to do the method and how to play pedal tennis.

How would I achieve this? Since there was not a lot of space on the shirt, I used augmented reality to enhance the design and to show or explain the heritage side of the design.

SOME MAGAZINE (ARTICLE)

For the SomeMag, I was looking for something that could go well with the Theme: „Action. Finding something that could fit in as an article was a long process. The process itself could be found in the MiroBoard below.

In the end, I decided on one Theme, and that is to do interviews and studio visits at Bbysclaw Studio. Bbysclaw is a nail artist based in Berlin. She focuses on making nail art genderless, not only for women but also for men and genderless people.

The other aspect of her that I found interesting is how she goes against the usual today's beauty standards. But since I could not find any partners and I couldn't fit the time into my schedule, I had to cancel this article, but these are my progress towards the article.

FREE PROJECT

This part is one of the parts I found different from this course. We have the freedom of what we want to do. Since we have this freedom, I want to use it for my interests and to experiment with it.

After thinking about what I'd like to do, I decided to back to the root, which is an illustration. I want to create graphics commenting on our latest global issues in this part.

Four words helped me construct the concept of the illustrations, and that is „Exaggeration,“ „Mockery,“ „Ready-Made,“ and „Social Commentary.“ These three ideas are the fundamental pillar of my illustration concept.

For the visualizations that are based on those four words, I want to create graphics that would mock the latest social issues through some Exaggeration expressions, and these would be visualized with ready-made objects that we find in our daily life, in short, the concept is to illustrate the social issues with everyday objects. I want to do some experiments with this absurd idea.

BUILDING EVERYTHING

This is a time-consuming part of the projects, from modeling the 3d models, creating shaders for each project, creating light for the environments, creating simple animation, creating all the stickers, applying it to the 3d models, and finally rendering it out, and finished it with after effects.

I used five different programs from the start until the finished product. Those programs are Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, After Effects, Blender, and Materialize.

FINISHED PROJECT

Since I haven't gotten to the printed posters (they would be available to pick up on 04.04.23 from the Graphic AR LAB FHP), I would just show how it looks now.

FAILURES

Since Artivive can only read clear visuals, and if it's too similar, they cannot detect the poster to activate the AR. This poster that I have done. The only problem is to make Artivive read it correctly. I tried for around 8 hours to figure it out, but then Artivive still could not read this one. I don't want to remove this one, so here are the poster and the animation.

CONCLUSION

The conclusion is that this course helped me immensely with self-development, time management, and creating a solid workflow as a designer. As designers, we must have a strong basis for presenting our designs to clients.

The design process is essential to pitching to the client to understand how the design was thought and created. Because the client can only appreciate our ideas by seeing the process, we as designers have to develop an understanding of our design, which is mandatory.

The freedom in this course also gives us a sense that we can do and experiment with everything we want to do, following tasks and free thinking. This pushes our creativity to think more out of the box.

The forum that prof. Sven created was super helpful to exchange thoughts with other students and have excellent feedback that we didn't think of. This could be achieved through exchanging views.

Thank you for pro. Sven and all the students that were involved in this course created an excellent environment for designers to develop their potential. Thank you very much for all these opportunities.
