Abstract English

The bachelor thesis analyses the field of „Deceptive Design“ and discusses how designers create honest interfaces in times of these omnipresent design practices. Deceptive design aims to manipulate users into taking actions that do not correspond to their preferences. At the same time, the use of deceptive design is often profitable for companies. This complicates the task of UX/UI designers to consider both the well-being of users and the interests of companies.

In the first part of the thesis, a definition and categorisation of deceptive design is given. Subsequently, the effects on users and society are highlighted and the responsibility of designers in this context is discussed.

The second part of the thesis focuses on the concept of „Honest Design“. It presents principles and guidelines that can help designers to develop honest interfaces. These focus on respecting the autonomy and preferences of users.

Finally, the bachelor thesis explores the design of an interactive pattern matrix, which is intended to help designers become aware of deceptive patterns by taking on the role of a user in an unfamiliar design. This is intended as an impulse for designers to reflect on their own interfaces and principles.
